Family photos seem to have an
unfortunate habit of collecting in shoeboxes in cupboards. But
wouldn't you prefer them to be out on show? Follow our easy
hints to make a striking display.
Remember, photos grouped together stand out more when there is
a common theme such as colour, subject matter or similar
looking frames.
Choose the wall area where you want to display your photos and
work to a definite plan. Work out where each photo will hang.
To avoid mistakes, cut templates from paper (not newspaper)
and Blu-Tack them to the wall. This will give you a better
idea of the effect.
An asymmetrical arrangement
works best for an eclectic group of frames. Start by
positioning the largest work, then organise the others
around it. It looks better if the centre of the group is
at eye level.
Want your photos to catch
everyone's attention? Brightly coloured frames can make an
image appear larger, as can overscale mounts on small
images.
For a more formal look,
position photos within an imaginary square boundary. Start
with the largest frame, then work out from there, keeping
the gaps between the frames a uniform size.
For more visual impact, use
similar size or the same types of frames around photos.
Shallow wall shelves are
another display option. The big advantage is that new
photos can always be added. Rotate the photos seasonally
or dress up the shelves for a special occasion.
So give it a go and
transform a dull piece of wall into a wonderful display of
memories.
