Establishing
a Virtual University of Information Technology
IT & Telecom Division
of the Ministry of Science and Technology has decided to establish a
Virtual University of Information Technology. This ambitious program
will be completed on a priority basis in the next four years at a total
of Rs.1298 million. It will have a main campus in Islamabad and four
other campuses in the provincial headquarters.
The aim and objectives of
this project are:-

To provide a pool of
highly educated and trained IT professionals.

To enhance the
quality of education in the existing IT institution.

To fill the gap of
faculty shortage in the National IT Institutions.

To enhance the skill
level of IT professionals.

To provide highly
trained and skilled manpower to national institutions such as WAPDA,
PIA, Railway, Postal Services and Defense Organizations.
This project will be a
complete novelty in the country. This concept has not been implemented
in any developing state. The success of this project will enable the
country to offer the same facilities in other underdeveloped and
developing countries.
The Virtual University
will have five Virtual campuses located at Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore,
Peshawar and Quetta. Each Virtual campus will have a capacity of 200
students and a total capacity of 1000 students in all five campuses. The
University will have one administrative center to co-ordinate the entire
activities. This center will house the management and basic electronic
infra structure to facilitate the activities of Virtual University. The
university will establish the direct contact with all major National
universities in the public and private sector and they will be invited
to subscribe to the Virtual University Programs. All participating
Universities will act as “Virtual Campuses” of Virtual University.
